Most days my commute is about an hour each way, which gives me way too much time to overthink life, my to-do lists, etc…but my thoughts kept going back to what I could share on my blog today. I considered diving into wedding planning updates, maybe chatting about my garden, but honestly? All I could think about was getting home to my little family, curling up on the couch, and watching more Martha Stewart.
Somehow I stumbled onto a 24/7 Martha channel and I haven’t stopped watching for over a week. Obsessed much? Absolutely. When I was younger, I would literally drop everything to watch her show and just sit there in total awe. That’s where my love for baking and crafting really started.
Now, re-watching these old episodes, I feel like I’m learning it all over again—but this time with the perspective of someone who actually has to cook, clean, and keep a home running. So many tips I really could’ve used in my 30s! My favorite things have been all the little cooking hacks and which utensils to use for what. Like, who knew you can just use the side of a spoon to peel ginger? Meanwhile I’ve been risking my fingertips with a potato peeler. Yikes.
High on my must-buy list now: a fish turner spatula. Considering how often I make salmon, I feel like this is my culinary utensil soulmate. One thing I have noticed is how much she uses lemon. I did not realize Martha was the unofficial queen of lemons! Lemon pudding from scratch, starwberry lemonade, and there was even some sort of preserved lemons that you jar up with some salt to eventually create a condiment to put on salads or seafoods. I think Martha calls it Lemon conift.
All this talk of food, I am starving and guess what I am cooking tonight? SALMON..ugh wish I had that turner spatula!
